What if Tony Montana had survived the shootout at his mansion at the end of the film Scarface? What if Tony hadn't been killed by one of Sosa's assassins? What might have happened next? That's the scenario Radical Entertainment presents in their Scarface: The World is Yours video game, an alternate ending in which the infamous Cuban drug lord lives to fight another day.

The open-ended gameplay is solid from start to finish, the production values are top notch for a current generation title, and the game just oozes charisma. You don't even have to be a fan of the Scarface film to enjoy Scarface the video game, just sit back and enjoy Tony Montana's brutal rise to glory.

What we said about it:

Despite a few flaws, Yakuza is the most enjoyable game I've played all year. It's got a deep plot that keeps you guessing and features a deeper cast of fleshed-out characters than any other game I can recall. I came into this game expecting to just love the gameplay, and if the plot was good, fine. I left it loving the gameplay nearly as much as I'd hoped, and being blown away by the depth in the story. Sega invested $21 million into this game, and it was worth it. Yakuza oozes polish in nearly every area, and I hope that the sequel fixes the camera, targeting, and loading problems that prevent it from reaching its full potential. As it is, it's “just” the most immersive game released all year.

What we said about it:

Saints Row is worth your money, plain and simple. Its Grand Theft Auto inspired gameplay is not only very well done here, but through many refinements and advances in the feature set, Volition has delivered a game that is… dare it be said… better in some respects. Although it would be impossible for any title like this to have the same impact GTA III did back in 2001, Saints Row succeeds in raising the next-gen bar for this genre not only for themselves, but for the series that inspired them as well.
