It seems part of diversifying Lego's product offerings is to do more video games. With the surprise success of Lego Star Wars, Lego now takes it to the pitch with Lego World Soccer. Yes, it's still a soccer game with shooting a ball between two goal posts but it comes with some zany twists.

In World Soccer, the players and teams aren't Premiership or real life international players they're astronauts, construction workers and pirates. (Although it's not a stretch since French superstar Zinedine Zidane has a Lego character of his own.) Each one comes with their own look and design. But more importantly, to gameplay, characters on each side reflect their profession. Pirates will wield swords and have cannons on the field. Astronauts will use their jetpacks to fly around. If this wasn't eccentric enough, there are universal power-ups like increased speed or stopping the clock that can be picked up and used by any side.

World Soccer lets you play on five different fields, each belonging to a different side in the game. The pirates, for example, will play on their tropical sandy beaches. There's no World Cup in this game but there is a Lego Cup, which acts as the game's championship mode. Winning in this mode will let you unlock more fields and sides. These become usable at any time in any combination for friendly exhibition matches.

There's no way you can consider this a traditional soccer game. It's more like an arcade game with a ton of action. I'll offer one caveat though. If you have a borderline phone that will experience slowdowns playing this game, pass on buying it. When this game plays on sluggish phones, it's excruciatingly frustrating so make sure you have half decent hardware before trying this game out.
