Zoo Tycoon: Marine Mania will be the second expansion pack for Zoo Tycoon. The first, Dinosaur Digs, was nice enough, but it pretty much only added bigger animals to manage. It didn’t add anything to gameplay. Well, developer Blue Fang Games might have corrected that flaw with Marine Mania. Not only will the new expansion pack have 22 new marine animals for you to take care of, but you’ll also be able to create shows for them to perform. Plus, you’ll have to worry about the depth of the exhibits now, and you’ll be able to construct combination exhibits where part is an exhibit from Zoo Tycoon and part is a “deep sea” exhibit from Marine Mania. So not only will the expansion pack add new strategy, it’ll help break up the familiarity of making exhibits. Let’s take a closer look.

Like in the Zoo Tycoon games that came before it, the emphasis in Marine Mania will be on “big” marine animals. So you’ll get to deal with creatures like the great white shark, sperm whale, bottlenose dolphin, and great Pacific octopus. Smaller creatures will be relegated to attractions like the crustacean house and tropical aquarium.

Ben and Jerry the dolphins frolic on the “living side” of their exhibit.

Then they move to the “performance side” where Jerry jumps through a hoop.

Not to be outdone, Ben does a huge flip! The crowd goes wild!

There are also sharks...

... octopi...

... and tuna of all things!

Plus, just like in Dinosaur Digs, Marine Mania will come with a collection of new eye candy and themed objects. So you’ll get to see things like popcorn vendors, boat rentals, and Kneemo’s Sub Shop, with the best submarine sandwiches around.

How a new food court might look.

Boat rentals.

A shark tunnel!

Marine Mania will also come with nine scenarios (or at least that’s how many the beta copy came with) plus the entire Dinosaur Digs expansion pack. Look for it later this month.
