Over at the Electronic Arts booth, I got time to stop by and chat with the folks on The Sims 2 and Battlefield: Modern Combat.
The Sims 2
The Sims 2 is really shaping up to be a slick looking game. Although the game has a 3D look like the console counterparts, the interface retains the simplicity of its predecessor. The new interface will make acquiring new objects more gratifying as decorations are looking sharper than ever. Some of the new features include the creation of a DNA footprint for your Sims. These can be passed on to offspring. Activity done by your Sims will shape their physical appearances. Also, Sims will be able to age more than the leap from child to adulthood.
Battlefield: Modern Combat
Battlefield: Modern Combat looks like a game similar to the original Battlefield series. It is being released simultaneously for the PS2 and the Xbox. The PC will not receive a version. However, the console Battlefields will be using the streamlined interface of Battlefield: Vietnam. There are fewer buttons on screen and commands are more simplified. To make the game easier, there are more HUD-type markers to indicate where enemies are and such. Given the time period, these are more plausible than during WWII. Modern Combat started development not very long ago and will be finished some time in October for a holiday release. With so many titles and expansion packs under their belt, Dice is obviously getting into a roll developing Battlefield titles.
