Star Wars Galaxies is easily the most anticipated MMORPG of 2003. If you're a gamer, you've heard about it. If you're a Star Wars fan, you probably have a shrine built for it in your closet. SWG is promising nothing less than the most in-depth Star Wars experience ever by allowing players to create, live/play their adventures within a virtual Star Wars universe that’s complete with Jedi, Darth Vader, and Ewoks. With the just announced release date of June 26th, the three-year wait since SWG was announced is finally over.

As you may or may not know, Star Wars Galaxies will be using an all-new engine built specifically for SWG. This means a better graphics engine incorporating dynamic lighting, real time shadows, bump mapping and more, as well as better sound effects and music, and most importantly...lots and lots of emote animations.

Players will live out their adventures on planets, galaxies and towns that will be familiar if you've watched the movies up until now. Visit Jaba the Hutt on Mos Isle or walk along the streets of Naboo. After the initial release of Star Wars Galaxies, an expansion pack is planned for release later on that will offer space travel and combat to players.

So the question that many players are asking: Will SWG be able to implement different styles of game play that will be able to please those who enjoy a more EverQuest style of killing stuff for loot as well as those who want to lose themselves and feel like they are actually playing out their own destinies, all for $15 a month? In this writer’s humble opinion, while I was playing the beta, it seemed to be leaning more towards the “EQ” style of game play. With the eminent release of Star Wars Galaxies later this week, the question will be answered once and for all. Check back in the future when we draw the final conclusion.
