EverQuest: Legends from Sony Online Entertainment is the next evolution of the widely popular Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORG) EverQuest (EQ). Aside from the forty-three standard EQ servers, a separate Legends server dubbed ‘Stormhammer’ was created to support new Legends features. There is no additional software purchase necessary to play Legends; you simply need to subscribe to the Legends service for access to the Stormhammer server. Existing players can have up to eight characters, including equipment, moved over to the Stormhammer server free of charge.
Legends brings EQ back into a more interactive role-playing environment that immerses players into a much more dynamic on-line world than the standard EQ game. Daily Game-Masters (GM) run events and provide players with new quests that are much more exciting than the typical pre-programmed, non-player character (NPC) quests which normal EQ players are used to. GM’s take on the roles of quest characters in a true role-playing fashion and lead the players through daily interactive quests. Players already know what items and glory can be achieved from the normal NPC quests since they are the same every time, however you will never know the outcome of a GM run event since the quest characters are real people, not computer controlled. Many of the rewards for players who successfully complete GM events are fantastic items that are only available on the Stormhammer server. New quests of epic proportions have also been developed specifically for the Stormhammer server. These special quests reward the players who finish them first by having the special quest item named after their character. It would certainly be nice to be the first one to finish one of these new quests and have the quest item named after your character, bringing your greater glory and status among your peers. An example would be, ‘ Legends additionally expands the known realms by adding at least one new zone for players to explore, if they can find it. Rumor has it that more new zones are also in the works. The Stormhammer server continues to be the catalyst for new ideas, quests, items, and zones to explore. Legends is the premiere EQ service and nicely enough for the subscribers of the standard EQ game, some of the new things created for the Legends service will certainly be making their way into the standard EQ game. One of my favorite additions to the Legends service is not even found within the game itself. An interactive website with all of your character information is created and updated as you play. The website includes information such as your character(s) profile, exploration maps, journal, trophies earned, duels you’ve been in, guild information, and more. You never know when you’ll want to check out character stats, items, travel history, bind location, and other information. The web interface really adds another level to the game by allowing you to get character, event, and guild information quickly and without having to log into the game. The main EQ Legends website also features other areas such as the main GM event calendar (which you’ll want to check often for events you’d like to attend), plus access to view other players’ public profiles. A guild section provides a place for guilds to organize themselves and provides the guild with the tools they need to organize members and plan events. The guild section includes a guild events calendar, charter, rules, guild roster, message-board/forum, guild news, and journal. All of these new web features are included with the Legends service. While Legends seems to appeal to more experienced EverQuest players who are looking for new challenges, many of the dynamic GM events are also tailored for lower level characters and provide just as much fun for newer, up and coming players as well. If you truly enjoy a fun and rewarding role-playing experience all around, the Legends service will definitely appeal to the adventurer in you. The standard EverQuest monthly service is currently being offered at $12.95 USD per month and the new EverQuest: Legends service is currently being offered at $39.95 USD per month. Check the EverQuest: Legends website for additional price plan information as well as an online virtual tour.
