Disciples II: Dark Prophecy, from Strategy First, is anticipated to be hitting the shelves on January 22nd, 2002. This is an exciting fantasy world turn-based game that will excite any gamer who enjoys strategy, role-playing, and sweet graphics. The sequel features a heap of improvements since the first Disciples game, to the point where this is almost a completely new game. The graphics in combat and the game interface have combined superbly detailed artwork with smooth functionality. Scenery on the map moves with a high level of detail including things like clouds, birds, windmills, and waterfalls. As the leader, you will control one or more hero parties and take them adventuring far and wide across the lands in either single player campaigns or multi-player mode. Troops should initially be added into a hero’s regiment and will provide protection for the hero when moving through the land. With each completed quest and slain monster, the hero and party gains experience toward increasing in level and skill. Cities that are owned or conquered by the heroes not only provide a safe place for the heroes to heal, but they also have many different city building upgrade options to allow for purchase of better troops and spell research. The game system is very simple and is combined with a challenging campaign storyline that won’t let you get any sleep until you finish the next quest. A major bonus is the map editor, which will be included with the final release so you can design your own maps to play with friends over the Internet or LAN. Disciples 2 is fun to play and promises to give gamers a deserved break from the first-person shooter frenzy. Note: Screenshots have been taken from an early preview release of Disciples 2 so the graphics are not representative of the final release.
