Yet another bass game hits the markets without the proper features that a real bass game needs. This game should have been beta tested and had some outside input on it before it was shipped, but no, the game companies need their money to bad to release something with a little quality. Do not get me wrong, some bass games are great, ie. Trophy Bass 2, it had so many options and it was hard, but fun. Pro Bass Fishing is very easy and very easy to understand. Pro Bass Fishing offers very little in the way of options. The fisherman is aloud to pick his lures and his rod and that is it! Although, the fisherman does gets to play god and choose what weather condition and lake he would like to fall asleep on while fishing.

The graphics for this game reminded me of Commander Keen. Do not get me wrong, I love Commander Keen in all its glory, but Pro Bass Fishing will only run under 8-bit mode (256-color). This really takes away from the true experience of the game. Although, the annoying flies that buzz around did give a little realism to the game. Water that constantly moves sounds great, but not in the same pattern over and over again. This game shows that water can be rheumatic. The locus were very interesting, they came in almost on queue as I tried and tried to learn how to cast without pushing the right mouse button and doing it manually. The casting on this game is rather strange. A person can do it with the right mouse button or they can try to figure out how and why the manual is telling them to cast the left mouse button. It is fun using the left mouse button, after you spend a few minutes trying to fling your mouse in the right direction. There is an interesting feature that allows the fisherman to move 90 degrees either way from the center of the boat, but most of the time the lure will never make it back so that the fisherman can recast. That feature needs to be worked on, not only in this game but in all bass games, for sure because it adds a sense of realism to the standard view of bass games.

The Good: The good thing about this game is that I love to fish and any game that has to do with fishing will get my attention rather quickly. Like I have said a million times, " A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at the office!"

The Bad: I could go on and on about the bad of this game, but I hate to do that because this game is a fishing game and I love fishing games. The programmers should have taken a little more time to work on the graphics and the overall gameplay of the title. This would have helped the experience out so much that people might actually go out and buy this game. Also, the snag feature was rather annoying in the aspect that it would just do it when there was nothing around to get snagged on. This was really a disappointing game.

Here in Minnesota, fishing is god and we do it year round. When I first heard this title was released by Wizard Works and Sunsoft Interactive (makers of Deer Hunter) I couldn't wait to try it! I liked Deer Hunter, especially the way everything was random and never in the same spot twice, so I was looking forward to trying this Fishing title.

The game features 6 different lakes (the best being Turtle), 6 different fish (Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Stripped Bass, Blue Gill, Crappies and Perch), and 3 different weather settings (sunshine, etc.). Every lake looked the same though (environment, colors, etc.) and when you hooked a fish, they all looked alike.

One of the nice things about the game is that you're unable to view the fish through the water, so you don't know where they are located. It adds a nice touch of realism to the game as most other fishing games are unrealistic in the fact you can see the fish through the water, so all you have to do is cast your rod and your set.

The actual fishing is relatively easy, you just have to spot a fish on your fish finder. A solid black fish is usually a "non moving fish", these are what you should look for. Gray fish are moving and will usually leave soon after you arrive. When you find a group of solid black fish, it's usually possible to pull as many as 10 fish out of one spot. Long distance fights are incredibly hard and I have only won a couple of battles. Usually the fish breaks the line before I can reel them in. The largest fish I caught after 5 hours of fishing was a 2.35 pound small mouth. Your probably laughing, but the game is very hard.

The graphics suffer in this game. When I started the game up, it asked if it could switch windows to use 8 bit graphics?! There's no hardware support at all, only DirectX, but a game of this genre should not call for it. Like I said earlier ,no matter what lake your fishing at, the environment appears to be the same, no matter where you move on the lake.

Most likely the best feature of the game are the tackles. There are loads of them. It was fun trying combos of the 3 rods and the tackles to see what kind of fish you could catch.

The sound in the game was very poor. The mosquitos and other bugs in the background gave a more realistic feel, but not too much. It seemed as though the guy yawned every 2 minutes, there was very little speech (only when you hooked one) and very few sound effects other than reeling of the line and casting. It was very quiet on the lake to say the least.

There's no multiplayer, and little reason for it unless your going to compete in a tournament.

Overall this game lacks in every aspect of fishing but it is one of the best fishing game around. Gamers looking to have a good time should not even attempt to try this, but I think hardcore fishing fanatics should.
