It's nice to see the hits of the console make their slow, but interesting transition to the PC. Rampage definitely attempts to show that it paid off to wait this long for such an old game to arrive on PC. Did it prove itself worthy of the wait, or this just another flop? Well I guess you'll have to read on if your interested to find out..

Rampage is definitely an all-time classic no matter where its ported to, even if they convert to a 3DFX game I'm sure it would be fun. The story line is pretty basic, these monsters are destroying the cities of the world, hence the Rampage WORLD Tour, is it your job to stop them? Hell no! You are the monsters! For once in a game you actually get to play the bad guy, running around destroying every building, airplane, chopper, car and person in sight. The more destruction and rampage you bring about, the higher your score gets. I'd say on the originality scale, it's pretty much perfect, despite the fact that it is a side-scroller. So what Rampage has done is proven that you don't need a fancy 3DFX computer to still have some good ol' fun. Everything in the levels is pretty much there for the taking, your only enemies are the little people and police men who are stupid enough to shoot you, and the attacks from the air. Destroying air targets can be quite tricky, you have to jump and punch at the perfect time to hit them or they'll toast you. As far as the ground targets go, jumping on them or eating them provides you with more health and a longer rampage. As far as selection goes, you've got George the Gorilla(King Kong), Lizzie the Lizard (Godzilla), and Ralph the giant Rat dude (don't ask). They are all pretty much equal in strength, the only reason you have a choice of Rampant is probably to provide a bit of replay value. Overall, its quite a fun single player experience.

As far as multiplayer goes, great score again! It features IPX Network Play, which is extremely fun and smooth (0 lag on a lan). The only thing I'd have to complain about is sometimes your teammate can have a little brain trouble and forget that you both have to walk the same direction to advance. I wish there was more communication for this, because sometimes it is annoying. Other than that minor tidbit, it's pretty much perfect for some 2 player action.

The control in the game is perfect if you have a Gravis Gamepad (or similar device). It really gives that arcadish feel to the game, and suits it well. If you unfortunately are lacking a joystick device, the keyboard still seems to work fine. Although it is sometimes confusing as to which keys go where. All in all, its quite enjoyable to control.

The Interface lacks more options, and its annoying to goto windowed screen just to change some options. Although the main interface is quite basic and simple to navigate. I suggest turning AUTO SAVE ON at the beginning of the menus because you may forget to save your game later on. Also if you are trying to select Network Play and it isn't responding, make sure you switch to 2 Player mode first.

Similar to the interface, in the sound department I have a couple of complaints. The sampling is quite loud for this type of game, and sometimes the shreaks of the people gets annoying (and not to mention, leaves a ringing sound in your ear). To solve this problem I'd suggest adjusting the Tone/Treble on your speakers or mixer to lower the high pitched noises. Some of the sound effects are funny though, like the monsters when they come into the game and when they burn their feet etc.. although I still think it would have been better if new sound effects were sampled for the PC conversion since the PC soundsystems are capable of much more special effects.

The graphics are quite nice for a port, especially in windowed mode because you get a much higher resolution image. In full screen the Pixels are too visible and it reminds me of the SNES a bit too much. The game scores big in variety, because it probably uses just about every colour available on the palette and also the buildings and monsters animation is very smooth and crisp. The people lack the level of the detail spent in creatin the Monsters, but they are so small it's barely noticeable. Overall, I'd say the graphics engine is quite pleasing despite its basic nature. I know everyone would have preferred some sort of hardware acceleration, but to make that possible they would probably have to code an entire new game engine.

In conclusion, for the old school fans of Rampage, I'd say this game is worth a look at. Since the gaming industry is advancing on the PC by the second, there won't be much room for games like this in the future, so it's probably a good idea to add this little gem to your classics collection. The only doubt I have about this game is the replay value, once you pass the game it isn't much fun as the first time, but it's still nice to play on a rainy day. :) Nice work Point of View Software.

It's everyone's favorite game back again in the 90s. If you don't know what Rampage is then you missed out one of the greatest games of all time. Rampage is a game where it's all out destruction, You get to pick one of 3 creatures to do your destruction with. Basically you have to use the creature and destroy everything in site: buildings, aircraft and you even eat people to recover yourself from damage due to army attacks.

There are a wide variety of levels to go through as the box says, but that doesn't mean each level is unique and totally looks different than the other. Some of the levels are repetitive but still, like it's original, it's fun. I think this game is pretty addictive and destroying buildings and killing people is fun. The graphics have certainly changed from the original. A bad thing, though, is that it doesn't change to full screen mode with the resolution you want. What I think its doing when you choose full screen mode is just expanding the window which makes the game performance go down by at least 80%. It's not full screen DirectX mode.

You can destroy lots of things in this game. When you destroy buildings you may find goodies inside to eat so you can heal yourself from those helicopter and police attacks or anything else that wounded you. You can even get rid of cars that are driving by on the road and you can even jump on buildings. The main goal for yourself is to kill or eat as many people you can and to destroy the buildings as well and while doing that you also have to fend off attacks from the people and aircrafts. One cool thing that happened is the air force came in with jets in a V formation and bombed the entire screen.

The sound to this game isn't quite original, I was expecting a little bit better sound from this game and more varieties of sound. I'd say the sound to this game is a little bit below average. This game is really great because its fun, and the graphics are average, so you can enjoy that. This game is even more fun when you play with 2 or even 3 player mode. And there is even multiplayer in this game, there is a Network game option in the main menu.

Overall I'd say this is a great game, it's fun and if you like the original Rampage then you should definitely get this. I was expecting a little bit more faster action and full screen DirectX mode. You shouldn't get bored from this game for at least a few weeks then it might become repetitive to you.
