  • Sierra Entertainment has launched the Futures-Past Multiplayer Map Pack, a new downloadable content package for TimeShift for the Xbox 360, available for free download on Xbox Live Marketplace. The map pack features five new multiplayer maps. Each map presented in the DLC package supports classic multiplayer modes: One-on-One, Deathmatch, and Team Deathmatch, as well as TimeShift’s exclusive multiplayer modes, King of Time and Meltdown Madness.

  • 2K Games announced today that it has reached an agreement for BioShock to be developed as a feature film by Universal Pictures. Gore Verbinski, director of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, is slated to direct and produce the BioShock movie. John Logan, Academy Award-nominated writer of Gladiator, The Aviator and Sweeney Todd, is in talks to do the screenplay. The expected release date and terms of the agreement were not disclosed. A sequel to the game, BioShock 2, is planned for a release in 2009.

  • Criterion Games today announced that the driving game Burnout Paradise is being rebuilt specifically for the PC. Burnout Paradise will be the first Burnout title ever made for the PC, customized with expanded multiplayer, enhanced online features, and community driven content.

  • Battlefield: Bad Company Demo Coming    - Steve Riach
     
  • DICE today announced that a demo for its summer release, Battlefield: Bad Company will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store on June 5th. Players can also gain early access to the demo by pre-ordering the game through participating retailers. Battlefield: Bad Company is scheduled for release on June 25th.

    Players who missed their opportunity to participate in the closed beta get a second chance to experience the intense multiplayer Gold Rush mode on the Oasis map while the single player portion starts gamers at the beginning of their ‘B’ company career. The single player portion of the demo sets the stage for players as they’re introduced to the humorous and sometimes irreverent set of characters that make up the ‘B’ company. As gamers embark on their quest for gold, they’ll experience the same classic Battlefield gameplay including access to numerous vehicles, weapons and open maps as well as the new tactical destruction that only Battlefield: Bad Company can deliver.

  • Codemasters has secured the exclusive video game rights to Formula 1. In a worldwide licensing agreement with Formula One Administration Limited, Codemasters will develop a new generation of Formula 1 game franchise across multiple platforms. The worldwide deal provides Codemasters with rights to feature all Grand Prix circuits, Formula 1 teams, cars, and driver likenesses. Codemasters expects the first game based on the FIA Formula One World Championshp to launch in 2009.

  • 2K Sports and Konami today announced the next iteration of the baseball franchise, MLB Power Pros 2008, scheduled to be available for Wii and PlayStation 2 this July, as well as Nintendo DS later this fall.

    With over ten different exciting game modes including the traditional Practice, Exhibition, League and Home Run Challenge modes, MLB Power Pros 2008 will bring fans closer to the action than ever before. Gamers also get the opportunity to act as general manager and control the destiny of their own franchise in Season mode, or engage in entertaining role-playing story modes such as Success and MLB Life modes. As general manager, gamers can trade, sign free agents, coordinate practice schedules, purchase new equipment, call up and send down players from the Minor Leagues, along with other management options to bring in fans, win playoff games and eventually, earn the title of World Series champion.

    In Success mode, fans can participate in a story-based career of rising players in the Double-A Minor League system trying to improve their baseball skills and make an impression on baseball scouts while also having to balance various situations in their personal lives. Through a variety of amusing training and game challenges, players who complete Success mode will also be able to take their created player files into MLB Life as well, or also play as either an existing Major League Baseball player in Dream Mode, or start as a rookie in Major League Career mode. As a new feature in MLB Power Pros 2008, MLB Life is another story-based mode that will allow fans the possibility to simulate the exciting life and experience of being a Major League Baseball player over the course of a 20-year career. While continuing to play in games through the regular baseball season, players will also participate in a number of realistic situations such as signing contracts, purchasing houses and cars, making charitable donations, building up relationships with friends and teammates, picking up hobbies and much more.

    With easy, pick-up-and-play hitting and pitching controls, along with intuitive Wii functionality, other new features in MLB Power Pros 2008 include support of 40-man rosters, change of ball speed, adjustment of defensive shifts, along with a real-time bullpen check functionality for substituting pitchers. MLB Power Pros 2008 will also support the option for players to import their Wii-based characters, Miis, from their Wii or Wii Remote to become part of the exciting action!

  • AQ Interactive announced today that it will bring Vampire Rain: Altered Species to the PlayStation 3. The stealth action game will be developed by Artoon, which has developed such titles as Blue Dragon, Blinx: The Time Sweeper, and Yoshi's Island DS.

    Vampire Rain: Altered Species is an intense game that takes place during a dreary night in a suburban, west coast city in the US. For some time now, mankind has been battling the ferocious and terrifying Nightwalkers, a race of superhuman vampires who crave human blood. People have been disappearing at night; the lucky ones are found dead, but those less fortunate are reborn as Nightwalkers, and are bound by instinct to forcefully recruit unwitting victims into the Nightwalker army. Gamers take the role of John Lloyd, a member of a US special government unit created to defeat the Nightwalkers, and the only human to ever survive a physical encounter with them.

  • Sierra Entertainment today announced the development of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, a video game based on the upcoming summer movie from Universal Pictures. The game is being developed by Eurocom Studios for the Wii and PlayStation 2, and by A2M for Nintendo DS. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor video game is expected to be available at retailers on July 22nd.

    In the third-person action-adventure game The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, players will take on the roles of Rick O’Connell and his son, Alex (played by Brendan Fraser and Luke Ford, respectively, in the film). Gamers will follow the lead characters on their harrowing journey - across exotic locations from ancient Chinese catacombs to beautiful, but dangerous, Himalayan peaks - to defeat the revived servants of the Dragon Emperor (Jet Li). The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor allows players to switch seamlessly between gunplay and hand-to-hand melee attacks, and also features a fast and fluid combat system and an arsenal of weaponry that can be used to vanquish the many bone-chilling enemies players will face during their journey. Fans of the upcoming Universal Pictures film, directed by Rob Cohen and set to hit theatres this August 1st, will fight their way through The Mummy universe by utilizing combat, puzzle-solving and hieroglyphic decoding gameplay elements.

  • Nyko Technologies today announced that it will soon release the Energy Pak for the Wii Balance Board, a peripheral packaged with the forthcoming title Wii Fit. The rechargeable battery solution is expected to hit stores on May 19th with a SRP of $19.99.

    The Energy Pak installs conveniently on the underside of the Balance Board and features a unique AC Port Relocator that allows users to easily play with the board and charge the battery simultaneously, without ever having to remove the Pak or turn the Balance Board over. An easy-to-read LED charge light indicates the charge status of the battery, letting the user know when it is time to recharge, and when the charging cycle is complete. The Energy Pak can be quickly charged with the included, detachable AC adaptor, and provides up to 20 hours of playtime per charge.

  • Pandemic Studios today announced the development of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Nintendo DS. The game is set for a global release in fall 2008.

    In a partnership with New Line Cinema, The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is an action-packed game created by the same Pandemic Studios team behind the Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront II titles. Set in The Lord of the Rings universe of J.R.R. Tolkien, players will finally fight the entirety of these epic battles any way they want.   • THQ and Marvel Entertainment announced today that they have entered into an exclusive licensing agreement to create video games based on the Marvel Super Hero Squad franchise. Pursuant to the multi-year agreement, THQ has obtained the exclusive, worldwide rights to publish content for all current and next-generation consoles, handheld systems, as well as PC. The initial Marvel Super Hero Squad game is scheduled for release in fall 2009.

  • Rockstar Games has released a Grand Theft Auto IV patch for Playstation 3 today that prevents Gamespy’s servers from being overloaded and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up.   • Take-Two Interactive today announced that Grand Theft Auto IV has surpassed all-time entertainment records for day one and week one sales by dollar value. Released on Tuesday, April 29th, Grand Theft Auto IV has sold through to consumers approximately 6 million units globally with an estimated retail value of more than $500 million in the first week. Grand Theft Auto IV sold approximately 3.6 million units on its opening day with a retail value of approximately $310 million globally.

  • Electronic Arts today launched EA Sports Freestyle, a new sub-brand aimed at a more casual sports gaming audience. Currently three new games are in development and slated for release in the next 12 months. The first title to launch under the new sub-brand will be FaceBreaker, an arcade-style boxing title set for release in September and the first new console IP from EA Sports since 2002.

  • Warner Bros. Interactive announced today that Speed Racer: The Videogame for the Wii and Nintendo DS has shipped to stores nationwide. Based on the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures film directed by the Wachowski brothers, Speed Racer: The Videogame features the voices of Emile Hirsch as Speed Racer, Matthew Fox as Racer X and Christina Ricci as Trixie, who reprise their film roles as playable characters.

    In Speed Racer: The Videogame, developed by Sidhe Interactive for the Wii and Virtuos for the Nintendo DS, players will race at amazing speeds to engage in “Car-Fu” battles to outmaneuver opponents as they jump, flip, smash and spin competing cars off the track.   • Electronic Arts today revealed details and screenshots of the all-new Paint Booth feature in NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 will be available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on June 10th.

    Utilizing the all-new Paint Booth feature, NASCAR fans can now take in-game personalization to the next level by giving users the ability to completely customize their car from start to finish. In addition, for the first time in franchise history, a car customization template is available online which creates endless possibilities for personalization. Players will be able to see their friends custom designed car skins when racing against them online.

    The online connectivity of Paint Booth allows players to download a car template from easports.com and import it into editing programs, such as Photoshop, giving users a multitude of design options. They can then upload those images into the game and show off their dream machine on the track.

  • The EA Casual Entertainment Label announced today that BOOM BLOX for the Wii, the first game released in collaboration between EA and Steven Spielberg, has shipped to stores nationwide with a SRP of $49.99. BOOM BLOX is also available across major carriers for the mobile phone.

  • Majesco today announced Zoo Hospital for Wii. Developed by Torus Games, Zoo Hospital for Wii is expected to launch this August.

    Zoo Hospital is the first game of its kind on Wii that lets players experience a veterinarian's job. Players can use the Wii Remote in surgical procedures to eliminate parasitic pests, perform dentistry, X-ray organs and remove foreign bodies like gallstones to restore the health of 48 ailing zoo animals, including dolphins, gorillas, macaws and camels.   • Electronic Arts today announced the final two cover athletes for NCAA Football 09, scheduled to hit stores across North America on July 15. Former Cal wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, will be the cover athlete on PlayStation 2 while former West Virginia Mountaineer Owen Schmitt can be found on the cover of the PSP version of the game.

    NCAA Football 09 on PlayStation 2 will feature authentic collegiate animations, an all-new Mascot Challenge and bring to life the atmosphere, pageantry and tradition of college football.     S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is a survival FPS game for PC based on a 'what-if' scenario of the second Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident. The game is set in 2011 and brings forth the events to have preceded the third campaign of Strelok to the Zone center.
