further information: "You can?t go wrong with Heroes of Might and Magic III. New World Computing has created a solid, well rounded game with great multiplayer options that will hold the interest of any strategy gamer. No doubt there will be some complaints that the game is too similar to HOMM2 and I would agree that it does look to be very similar at first glance but there have been a lot of changes made that really add to the depth of the game. Overall a very solid effort. One note to NWC though ? let?s see you take some chances next time instead of playing it conservative. Using a tried and true game recipe makes a good game, coming up with something revolutionary makes a GREAT game." - DToxR

game of the year: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
publisher: Electronic Arts

further information: "This review just touched base with Alpha Centauri. I've played the game time and time again and every single time I find new things to do. New options that I haven't seen before. This is one of the games I have to say lives up to the hype. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri brings a whole new standard to the turn based strategy genre. This game I can safely say will become one of the classics that people refer to in their reviews and the standard that all turn based strategy will have to live up to." - Magikcow

THIRD
game type: Turn-Based Strategy
game of the year: Jagged Alliance 2
publisher: Take 2 Interactive
vote rating: 23%
further information: "This is really one of the better games that's been released in the last few months. Despite some of its flaws it's a really immersive experience, with a combat system so satisfying you could hug it and take it to bed with you. Every minute I write this is another minute I am not playing JA2, it's soothing, longing voice is calling for me." - Wolf

"Jagged Alliance 2 has impressed me very much, even though it was delayed a few times I still expected it to be this good and it is definitely worth your money. Suffice it to say, you won't find too many games like Jagged Alliance 2." - Phire
