game type: First Person Shooter
game of the year: Unreal Tournament
publisher: GT Interactive
vote rating: 43%
further information: "So how does Unreal Tournament size up? Well the only word that comes to mind is BRILLIANCE. I have no idea how Quake 3 Arena is even going to begin to compare to this title. Unreal Tournament is an out-the-box-success. No week-later problem fixer patch is needed here. Everything in the game is utter perfection. Whether you're in it for the single player quest or the online extravaganza Unreal Tournament doesn't have what you need -- IT IS what you need. And after all this -- if you're still not satisfied - at least you got yourself about a forty-dollar IRC client." - Langdon

game type: First Person Shooter
game of the year: Quake 3 Arena
publisher: Activision
vote rating: 16%
further information: "OK, so enough about the features, how does it PLAY? In a word.... brilliantly. No other game even comes close to delivering such fast-paced nerve wracking action. The moment you start playing you can tell this game was made by the best in the business. Control is lightning quick and that is a good thing because things happen in a hurry in Q3A. At the beginning you may experience a bit of a frustrating learning curve as "r4iNm4N[IXA]" or some similar /<-r4d cLaN k1d whoops your ass 30 frags to 1 but stick with it - as you start to get a feel for the controls the game becomes more and more fun. The game certainly grew on me and I consider myself a hopeless addict now. Thanks a lot ID! =P" - DToxR
