Deux Ex Premiering at E3

Date: May 3rd

Eidos Interactive has announced its E3 line-up, and attendees are going to get their hands on one of the most eagerly anticipated upcoming 3D games in development, ION Storm and Warren Spector’s Deus Ex. The story the Unreal engine-based action-RPG is wrapped up in seems familiar on the surface: It is the new millennium; civilization is near collapse; the world economy is in chaos; the middle class no longer exists; terrorism runs rampant; and it is five minutes and counting to the apocalypse. From this maelstrom of violence and suffering, an ancient conspiracy bent on world domination emerges. The conspirator’s greatest strength? No one realizes they exist -- except the player.

As a nanotech operative, it is the player’s responsibility to infiltrate the conspirator’s world of lies and betrayals and uncover the truth. When the cabal’s innermost secrets are revealed, an even deeper mystery and more ominous foe is exposed. Gamers travel the globe developing their abilities and building a web of allies, employing stealth, strategy and action where appropriate. Trust, though, is more of a liability than an asset since even allies may be different than they seem. One of the innovations for the 3D action-RPG genre will be the ability to create a compelling alter ego. Players will be able to select and develop their own unique set of abilities and nanotech augmentations, and determine which weapons and objects they will need to survive and solve problems. The broad range of personas includes deadly avenging angels, charismatic master manipulators and stealthy tacticians.
