Quake 3 Arena Screenshots

Date: May 13th

Activision and id Software have delivered a catastrophic level of 3D action at the Electronic Entertainment Expo with the debut of Quake III Arena. Designed as a 3D hardware-only title, Quake III Arena features a next-generation engine that continues id's signature hard-hitting action. The game is expected to hit retail shelves in 1999 and will be distributed by Activision. Quake III Arena's enhanced graphics engine displays realistic 3D environments using advanced features such as curved surfaces, specular lighting and high detail textures. The game offers visual features such as moody, atmospheric use of fog and pulsating organic materials.

The title's single-player game replicates a deathmatch experience in which people must annihilate opponents as they battle through more than 30 maps to win the ultimate deathmatch battle. Rather than solving puzzles, players engage in non-stop action and experience the visceral thrill of enemy combat. Navigating dynamic environments filled with obstacles, gamers sharpen their abilities to hunt down and vanquish their enemies. Players are pitted against sophisticated AI that matches their own gaming patterns. As players advance through each level, their opponents progress at a similar pace.

Should gamers survive the single-player portion, the multiplayer experience is bound to demolish even the toughest hardcore gamer. The game's deathmatch style gives people the heart-thumping action they demand. Players will build upon their experience with every level while utilizing their own unique abilities to guide them through battles. Quake III Arena’s significant improvements will enhance the head-to-head battle experience that spawned a gaming phenomenon.
