Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace Coming May 19

Date: May 14th

Lucas Arts says that their top-down action game, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace will be released on May 19. Featuring characters from the movie of the same name, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace casts players in the roles of the motion picture's principle characters, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Queen Amidala and Captain Panaka. The game unfolds with the Galactic Republic engulfed in turmoil. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are dispatched to the planet of Naboo, in an attempt to negotiate a settlement to a threatened blockade of trade routes by the nefarious Trade Federation. Upon their arrival, the two Jedi Knights learn that a trap has been set and their lives are in jeopardy, setting the stage for the ultimate struggle to save the Galactic Republic from a powerful and menacing threat.

"Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace delivers an incredibly immersive gameplay experience that captures all the drama and magic of the motion picture," says Joel Dreskin, product marketing manager for LucasArts.

In The Phantom Menace, players will encounter puzzles, interact with hundreds of characters and come face-to-face with a number of dangerous enemies, including battle droids, destroyer droids, mercenaries and the evil Darth Maul. The game's action takes place in various locales including Mos Espa on the desert planet of Tatooine and the galactic capital world of Coruscant.

Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace was developed by Lucas Arts and Big Ape Productions. The PC version is designed to run under Windows 95/98 and will require 3D hardware acceleration.
