Imperium Galactica II Announced

Date: May 14th

GT Interactive announced Imperium Galactica II, a sequel to Digital Reality's popular space empire building game at E3. The game features research, production, unit design, colony management, real-time space and ground battles, starmap navigation, trading, diplomacy, spying and intelligence.

"Imperium Galactica II combines the combat and conquest elements of best-selling real-time strategy titles with the resource management of popular empire builders," said Tony Kee, Director of Marketing for GT Interactive. "Because of this unique mix, Imperium Galactica II stands apart and creates an all consuming gaming experience with infinite replay value."

Imperium Galactica II is set in the 26th century where genetic scientists have toyed with the creation of a super-human race. The ruling military powers conspire to transform their research into a race of perfect killing machines, but not before a rebel scientist launches indestructible memory crystals containing all of the research information to random coordinates of the galaxy. The job of the player is to search and be the first to collect and protect the crystals ensuring completion of the mission, and the conquest of the new universe.

Imperium Galactica II offers three different scenarios based on the race players choose: Human, Brutal and Political. As a Human, players use spying and espionage to discover one of the four crystals, and plot to retrieve the remaining three. As a Brutal, players defend both their planet and crystal before attempting to conquer the remaining galaxies. In the Political campaign, players generate revenue by acting as mercenaries. Political missions include supplying warring factions with black-market goods, spying, selling information and creating unrest throughout the galaxy for profit.

Some of Imperium Galactica II's highlights include Fleet design and modification, a random storyline generator, the ability to defend cargo ships and battle pirates, control over the entire fleet's destiny, players can build, manage, and defend colonies on 80 different planets, diplomacy and alliances, espionage, multiplayer support for up to 6 players, high resolution 3D graphics, a tech tree that allows for the upgrade and discovery of new technologies relating to weapons, buildings and vehicles and an interface that claims to be user friendly and easy to learn.

Imperium Galactica II on PC CD-Rom is scheduled for release later this year.
