Dragon's Lair 3D Announced

Date: May 13th

BlueByte Software announced today that they have brought Don Bluth and Rick Dyer together to create another Dragon's Lair game; Dragon's Lair 3-D.

In Dragon's Lair 3D you control the actions of Dirk the Daring, a valiant knight on a quest to rescue ‘Daphney’, a fair princess from the clutches of an evil dragon. Fight your way through the castle of the dark wizard who has enchanted it with treacherous monsters and obstacles.

Dragon’s Lair original creators, Don Bluth (Anastasia ), Gary Goldman (Anastasia ), John Pomeroy (Fantasia II and Atlantis ) and Rick Dyer are also the creators of Space Ace and Dragon’s Lair II. Under the Dragon’s Lair LLC label, the team will work together once again to create new characters for Dragon’s Lair 3D. Bluth revealed today that one of the new characters will be the ‘Steal Monkeys’; made of steel, these fellows are cunning thieves and will have strong magnets instead of hands that grab anything and everything

Thomas Hertzler, Blue Byte CEO is also delighted with the deal. "With the light-hearted ‘good clean fun’ focus of our product range, Blue Byte continues to promote the fact that you do not need violence for the sake of it. It doesn’t make a good game and it’s still possible to publish a non-violent game and be successful. Blue Byte will continue to distance ourselves from what seems to be a trend in producing titles that become more violent, bloody and has more twisted content with each release. Dragon’s Lair 3D will continue to be a ‘family gaming’ affair and our marketing campaign will focus on a wider gaming audience."

Blue Byte Software expects to release Dragon‘s Lair 3D in time for Christmas 2000
