Sierra showcases Babylon 5

Date: May 13th

Slated to ship under the Sierra Studios brand, the Babylon 5 Space Combat Simulator will feature real-time 3D, first-person space combat combined with a complex, hierarchical AI system, a robust strategy component and a proprietarily developed interactive "sculptured music" technology. All these elements exist in a dynamic and detailed simulation of the Babylon 5 universe featuring the multitude of races and ships from the popular science-fiction television show.

Players will be able to experience the game as an EarthForce pilot in the story-driven single player game, as well as go head to head in ruthless or cooperative multiplayer games utilizing the ships of the Earth Alliance, Minbari Federation, Narn Regime, Centauri Republic and the Drazi Freehold. In addition to an action-filled, first-person simulation, the player will also be able to command the vast array of huge, powerful capital ships. The inclusion of this particular strategic component is expected to set the game apart from the rest of the genre. All this, combined with the ability to throw as many as 1,000 ships into the fray simultaneously, will let the player experience space combat on an unprecedented, epic scale. In addition to Sierra's own in-house expertise, the game will utilize the powerhouse talents of the many of the actors from the television show, along with those of Babylon 5's own special effects group Netter Digital, as well as the musical virtuosity of the show's composer Christopher Franke. Show creator J. Michael Straczynksi is also integrally involved in the game's overall design and storyline.
